PROW Assessments and Grading
The Public Right of Way (PROW) team is in the process of assessing and grading all of the Islands PROWs to allow users to make informed decisions before they set off on a footpath. The following symbols are used to denote the grading of the path and each path has been risk assessed to determine the grading. The risk assessments for each path can be found below.
Grading symbols
Easy wheelchair access grading symbol definition
Wide firm ground and no steps or stiles, gates will be wide and easily openable. Little to no, or very gradual elevation changes.
Easy access grading symbol definition
Firm ground with no stiles. Steps will be low level and gates will be easily openable. Little to no, or very gradual elevation changes.
Medium access grading symbol definition
Narrower paths with a variety of finishes, weather will have an effect on surface and grip. May cross some uneven terrain. Gradients will be variable and may be steep in places. Stiles may be present.
Difficult access grading symbol definition
Paths will have a variety of surfaces – many uneven. Narrow paths may also pass along or through sections requiring careful navigation past obstacles. Steep terrain is to be expected.
