Airport cheque presentations

One of the Isle of Man’s most popular community events has benefitted three charities to the tune of £3,186 each.

The Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service’s annual charity fun day once again attracted hundreds of visitors when it took place in May. Those who attended enjoyed a range of entertainment including rides in a fire appliance, bouncy castles, water games, stalls, refreshments and a raffle.

There was also an opportunity to meet Scorch, the robot fireman, while demonstrations and displays provided an insight into the work of the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service.

The event, supported by Lloyds Bank International, raised a total of £9,560.

The funds were split between the Firefighters Charity, which provides support to serving and retired firefighters and their families, and two Isle of Man-registered charities –

  • Age Concern Isle of Man, which works to improve life for older people in the Island
  • Manx Diabetic Group, which helps people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and supports efforts to raise awareness of the conditions in the Isle of Man

Firefighter Jimmy West said:

‘We would like to thank Lloyds Bank International for its support and all the staff, families, volunteers and businesses who helped to make this year’s Open Day such a big success. The event is always well attended and the money raised supports charities that work hard to improve the lives of people in the Isle of Man.’

The organisers also wish to thank all the local businesses and individuals who provided raffle prizes, including – Mal’s Butchers, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Jackie Reid, John Henley, Sure Mobile, Freshly Squeezed and Shoprite.
