First Flight Wind Offshore Wind Farm

First Flight Wind proposed to develop an offshore wind farm in the waters off the Co. Down coast that would have had a capacity of 600 Megawatts (MW).

However on 2nd December 2014, the First Flight Wind consortium announced that it was ceasing development of its Northern Ireland offshore wind farm. The company had made significant progress in establishing the feasibility of the project off the coast of Co. Down. However, as a result of delays to the design of the new market and renewable incentive arrangements for Northern Ireland, First Flight Wind concluded that the project could no longer be built in the timeframes likely to be required under the new market rules. As a result, it decided that it was not going to be possible to continue with further project development and consent related activity.

Prior to December 2014 announcement to cease with the project, the developers had published in February 2014, an Offshore Scoping Report for consultation in order to determine the issues that should be assessed in the offshore parts of the Environmental Impact Assessment. The Isle of Man Government made a response to the consultation on the Offshore Scoping Report.
