Wreck and Salvage (Ships and Aircraft) Act 1979

It is a legal requirement that all recovered wreck is reported to the Receiver of Wreck. Please see the downloadable Receiver Wreck and Receiver Wreck Report of Wreck or Salvage documents.

Fisher Associates produced the report on economic benefit potential of the IOM marine leisure industry at the request of the former Department of Transport in order to have an independent assessment of the economic benefit of developing marinas in the Isle of Man.

The DOI has responsibilities under Part 2 of the Water Pollution Act 1993, in respect of deposits in the sea.

The DOI also has powers under the Oil Pollution Act 1986 to take action in the event of an oil spill. In case of an incident of water pollution, please contact 686628.

Under the Harbours Act 2010 all pleasure craft must be registered and any change in registered details notified. Please use the form to register or change registered details (for example, ownership) available to download on this page.

The Submarine Cables (Application for Authorisation) Regulations 2004

These Regulations came into force on 28 January 2005 and make provision for applications for authorisation to lay a submarine cable in the territorial waters of the Isle of Man.

The Submarine Cables (Authorised Persons) Regulations 2004

These Regulations prescribe the powers and duties of authorised persons for the purpose of enforcing the Submarine Cables Act 2003 and regulations made under it, and overseeing works and other activities relating to submarine cables in territorial waters make provision for applications for authorisation to lay a submarine cable in the territorial waters of the Isle of Man. These Regulations came into force on 28 January 2005.

The Submarine Cables (Fees) Regulations 2004

These Regulations came into force on 28 January 2005 and prescribe the fee for an application for authorisation to lay a submarine cable in the territorial waters of the Isle of Man and the inspection fee for works carried out under the Submarine Cables (Safety) Regulations 2004.

The Submarine Cables (Safety) Regulations 2004

These Regulations came into force on 28 January 2005. These Regulations make provision for the safety of submarine cables within territorial waters of the Isle of Man.
