Laxey Bridge

'Old Laxey Bridge' was a stone arched structure dating back more than 100 years was destroyed during severe flooding on 3 December 2015. Torrential rain caused floodwaters from the hillside to bring trees, branches and debris down river, substantially blocking the arches. Finally, the weight of a double decker bus caused the bridge to collapse.

The new steel and concrete bridge structure was constructed between March 2016 and January 2017. Its appearance reflects elements of Laxey’s harbour and the single span design increases the flow of water to prevent a repeat of 2015’s devastating flood.
