New guidance has been introduced aimed at maintaining high standards within the Isle of Man’s licensing industry and promoting a safe environment for staff and customers.
The updated Codes and Guidance manual has come into operation following the latest triennial sessions of the Licensing Court. It has been produced by the Licensing Forum, a successful initiative that brings together members of the Isle of Man Government, the licensing industry and the Constabulary to address alcohol-related issues.
The manual acts as an appropriate, clear and effective reference guide for good practice in running licensed premises. In addition, the Licensing Court may also require licence holders to undertake one or more of the provisions set out in the manual as a condition of their licence.
Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson MHK said:
‘The licensed industry makes an important contribution to the Isle of Man economy and a lot progress has been achieved in recent years to promote good practice. Thanks to the partnership between licensees, the police and members of the Department, we now have up-to-date guidance about the proper operation of the Island’s licensed premises. I am also pleased to note that the Licensing Forum is committed to keeping this manual under review and issuing updates where necessary in order to ensure the industry’s standards are maintained.’
