Chief Executive's Office

The Chief Executive's Office is the administrative headquarters for the Department of Home Affairs and coordinates the operational divisions – the Isle of Man Constabulary, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Prison and Probation Service, Island radio communications including the Emergency Services Joint Control Room and Emergency Planning, including the Civil Defence Unit.

The main aim of the Department is to ensure community safety and officers in the Chief Executive's Office work towards this by drafting new legislation, undertaking research and consulting Isle of Man residents on the many aspects of the Department’s remit that affect the community.

The Department is also responsible for the administration and chairing of the Isle of Man Licensing Forum which is responsible for continually assessing the legislation under which the industry, the Licensing Court and the police operate, and any associated problems. The aim is to ensure the industry has a suitable environment in which to operate whilst providing that the regulation of the industry by the police and the issuing of licences by the courts are effective.

The Firearms Consultative Committee is administered and chaired by the Department. Its remit is to consider the operation of firearms legislation with a particular emphasis on public safety and to report directly to the Department of Home Affairs on firearms issues.

Other responsibilities include appointing the Island's Surveillance Commissioner, under the Regulation of Surveillance Etc Act 2006. The commissioner is responsible for overseeing directed surveillance and approving intrusive surveillance on the Isle of Man.

It established and supports the Police Consultative Forum and the Police Advisory Group.

The Department also provides financial support to the Isle of Man Crimestoppers Board and to the Victim Support Isle of Man charity.
