Statutory bodies and volunteers
A number of supporting bodies work with us to help improve the health and care system as a whole.

Appropriate Adults – supporting vulnerable young people and adults attending the police station or court following arrest

Health Services Consultative Committee (HSCC) – independent, consultative body to the DHSC

Health and Social Care Ombudsman Body (HSCOB) – an independent statutory body set up to review unresolved complaints made about health and social care services

Mental Health Commission (MHC) - independent body whose purpose is to ensure the DHSC is protecting the rights and welfare of patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1998

Public Engagement – help connect the DHSC to groups who assist us to understand patient experiences
