A group of nursing students are set to graduate next month after gaining exceptionally high results.
Fourteen students will be graduating with seven gaining first class degrees. The majority will be taking up positions with the Department of Health and Social Care.
The three-year Bachelor of Nursing course is undertaken at Keyll Darree Education and Training Centre on the Noble’s Hospital Estate, delivered by the Higher Education team from Learning, Education and Development in the Cabinet Office, and awarded by the University of Chester.
Senior lecturer Mark Haith said:
‘The results reflect the hard work and intelligence of our students. The commitment shown by every member of this group demonstrates the importance of selecting people with the right values during recruitment. Also, the programme can point to a strong lecturer-to-student ratio, which is one of the internationally-recognised indicators of excellence in higher education.’

‘The quality of the courses available to nursing students in the Isle of Man is fantastic and supports the DHSC philosophy of ‘Grow Our Own’ that Chief Minister Howard Quayle initiated with me during his time as Minister for Health and Social Care.
‘Increasing training places for local talent is imperative, especially against a backdrop of a high UK national shortfall of nurses and an extremely competitive market place.
‘The feedback from students is extremely positive and I’m delighted at the standard of the results being reached.’
Pre-registration nursing education has been delivered on the Isle of Man since 2000 with mental health nurse education commencing in 2009. There are currently 53 undergraduate nursing students studying for degrees at Keyll Darree, as well as 25 BSc and 56 MSc students registered on professional post-registration practice programmes validated by Manchester Metropolitan University.
A graduation ceremony will take place on 22 November 2017 at the Villa Marina in Douglas, where the group will celebrate alongside graduates from other programmes, including MSc in professional practice, BSc Health and Social Care, post-graduate certificate in professional practice and post-graduate diploma in professional practice.
Recruitment will take place in January for the next cohort of nursing students.
