National Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) Strategy

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is writing a National ASC Strategy. This strategy will help us to improve the way we support our ASC community by making sure services are provided fairly, effectively, and where they will do the most good.

Consultation

The DHSC ran a public consultation between 29 April and 10 June 2022, to collect the view and experiences of our ASC community, their family, friends, and carers, and professionals who work directly with them.

Nearly 400 people responded, and you can read the results of the consultation by following the link on the right-hand side of this page.

Strategy development

The results of our ASC consultation highlighted the need for us to work in partnership with other Government departments in order to drive meaningful improvements for our ASC community and the people who support them.

We had originally aimed to have the completed strategy published by December 2022, but in light of the complex issues highlighted by the consultation we have delayed the publication date. We want to create a strategy that takes account of what people told us, and we will take the time needed to ensure we get it right.

We will also, however, be focusing on creating more immediate improvements across Government whilst the strategy is under development. We will update this page regularly, so check back here for more information about the improvements we are making.
