Flat Registration
Any person intending to use or to permit to be used any premises forming a flat must apply to the registration authority for registration of those premises.
To register a flat, located anywhere other than Onchan, the process is set out below. To register a flat located in Onchan, please contact Onchan District Commissioners on +44 1624 675564 or email admin@onchan.org.im
Registration is intended to ensure flats are not over occupied and minimum standards are maintained. Owners can be held accountable when they are not and formal action could be taken.

The legislation sits side by side with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Fire Precautions (Houses in Multiple Occupancy & Flats) Regulations 2016, which came into force on the 1 January 2017.
Flat registration process
Step 1: Submit registration application form to Environmental Health (DEFA) with all requested documentation, applicable installation inspection records/certificates and evidence of payment to the Local Authority
Step 2: Inspection arranged with Environmental Health
Step 3: Local Authority register flat subject to advice from Environmental Health and issue registration certificate
