Body piercing

The Environmental Health Unit aims to ensure that the practices of any body piercing business are carried out in a clean and hygienic manner.

This can include:

  • Tattooing
  • Body piercing
  • Electrolysis
  • Acupuncture

All such businesses/persons are required to be registered with the Department. Registration is subject to routine inspections. All registered persons are issued with a certificate, which must be displayed on the premises. An application form can be found on this page under 'Related links'.

Legislation

The Island has specific legislation relating to acupuncture, tattooing and body piercing, copies of which can be found below. In addition, all operators should be familiar with and able to demonstrate that they are following guidance from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

Certification process

Step 1: Submit registration application form to Environmental Health (DEFA) with all requested documentation.

Step 2: Once received a member of the Business Support Team will be in touch to take payment over the phone.

Step 3: An Environmental Health Officer will be in touch to arrange an inspection and discuss your application.

Step 4: Once all checks are completed, if you have passed the inspection, your signed certificate will be sent in the post. If you haven't passed the inspection, recommendations will be made on bringing the business up to speed so that you can practice without causing any contraventions.
