Last 2 months: Free energy efficiency advice service coming to an end

Friday, 1 February 2013

After 4 years of providing free assessments, impartial advice and energy saving products to households in the Isle of Man the Energy Doctor Service, delivered by Age Isle of Man, will come to a conclusion on the 31 March this year.

Environment Minister, Phil Gawne said;

'Initial funding for the project has stretched a year beyond its 3 year expected lifespan and with over 850 assessments carried out resulting in potential savings for householders worth in excess of £590,000 identified; the Energy Doctor Service has enabled many Manx households to make significant savings on their energy bills. We will soon make available versions of the Energy Saving Trust’s Home Energy Check and Home Energy Generation Selector web based tools, which have been tailored for the Isle of Man, to provide similar assistance when this project has run its course at the end of March.'

Energy Doctor, Gary Stevens said;

'In some cases the greatest savings have come not just from physical improvements to homes, such as improved insulation and draft proofing, but also through identifying inefficient appliances and helping people to understand how their home heating controls work. It has been all too common to find boilers running flat out year round with householders fearful of touching the controls, or not even knowing where they are, and only being able to adjust the temperature of their homes by opening the windows!'

In 2010 the Service won the ‘Green Apple Award - International Category’, demonstrating how highly it was regarded as an innovative project.

The Department would like to urge those who are interested in taking advantage of this service, and have not already done so, to book a visit by calling +44 1624 631740 or emailing energydoctor@ageconcerniom.com whilst it is still available.
