Private sector housing condition survey 2018

Thursday, 9 August 2018

The Isle of Man Government is carrying out a survey to gather information about the condition of the Island’s private sector housing stock.

Officers from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture are visiting a random sample of homes between now and the end of November.

The surveys, which are conducted every 5 to 10 years, enable the Government to build a better understanding of the overall condition of Manx housing. This includes owner-occupied homes and rented properties.

The work supports the development of appropriate policies aimed at helping Island residents, including the elderly and those on low incomes, to maintain and improve their homes.

Analysis of previous survey data has led to the introduction of measures to assist home maintenance and schemes to enhance the efficiency of central heating systems and the provision of thermal insulation.

Letters have been sent to randomly selected households to explain the process and encourage them to take part.

The surveyors, who will carry photo identification, all work for the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

To complete the survey they need to view the front and rear of properties and also see all the rooms inside. All the information is treated in the strictest confidence.
