Calling all freshwater anglers: do you have the correct licence?

With the heavy rainfall last week river anglers may be starting to look ahead to the month of October which is renowned as being productive for salmon and sea trout fishing in Manx rivers.

Salmon Fishing - River GlassThe Department of Environment, Food & Agriculture would like to remind anglers that they must be in possession of a Season Other Waters licence if they wish to fish for salmon and sea trout from 1st  October until the season ends on 31st October 2013.  Day and Week licences are not valid during this final month of the river fishing season.

During October, Season Other Water licences can only be purchased online at www.gov.im/onlineservices or at DEFA headquarters, Thie Slieau Whallian, St Johns between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.  The licences cannot be purchased from Post Offices this year.  

River anglers are reminded that the season for brown trout ends on 30th September, to protect this species during the spawning season.

Reservoir fishing licences from 1st November until the end of the season on 31st January 2014 can also only be purchased online or from DEFA.  Day, week and season licences are all available for the remainder of the reservoir season and stocking will continue through October. 

Any angler found to be fishing without a valid licence may face prosecution with a hefty fine and the risk of being disqualified from fishing for a period of at least a year.
