Biosphere Reserves are areas designated by UNESCO as special places for nature and for people. Their main purpose is to encourage conservation, sustainable development and active involvement in the environment.
In a similar way to World Heritage Sites, Biosphere Reserves are internationally recognised – shining examples to the rest of the world of good environmental practices and the real meaning of ‘good living’.
With our beautiful landscape and coastline, strong community spirit and thriving economy, we have the opportunity to become the world’s first entire country that is a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. DEFA is currently working towards this with UNESCO and we want to celebrate our island with images that will showcase it to the rest of the world.
