The Department of Economic Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Liverpool Vision which will assist in the promotion and development of economic co-operation and overseas investment between the Isle of Manand Liverpool City Region.

Minister for Economic Development John Shimmin MHK and Chief Executive for the Department of Economic Development Chris Corlett today (26th) signed the agreement with Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson and Max Steinberg CBE, Chair of the International Festival for Business 2014 and Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company.

The Minister commented:

‘This agreement builds on our existing good relationship with Liverpool Vision. We are already committed to participating in the International Festival for Business later this year and we want to further develop our links with this important region.

‘The Isle of Man has particularly strong ties to the North West of England and with Liverpool in particular. In addition to our geographical, transport and historical connections, we also mutually contribute millions of pounds to our respective economies in a variety of ways.

‘As an integral part of the UK supply chain for aerospace, many of our thriving high-tech manufacturing sector’s customers are based in the area and we maintain a wide range of direct industry relationships such as the Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster’s membership of the North West Aerospace Alliance and the Isle of Man Ship Registry’s membership of Mersey Maritime.’

Mayor Anderson said:

‘The Isle of Man has traditionally enjoyed strong links with the Liverpool city region, economically and culturally. The Isle of Man has been a supporter of the International Festival for Business from the start and will have a strong presence across the 50 days.

‘It makes perfect sense that we sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which will allow us both to maximise the opportunities presented by the festival; before, during and after.’
