Energy Expo 2013 to showcase energy efficiency initiatives

Friday, 19 July 2013

The Energy Expo 2013 is taking place on the 9 and 10 of August at Knockaloe as part of the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.

Richard Ronan MHK, the Department of Economic Development’s Member with responsibility for Energy said:

'Government’s energy policy is approved by Tynwald and commits us to securing the efficient use of affordable energy while minimising the impact of our energy use on the environment. The Energy Expo aims to raise awareness of energy efficiency initiatives and some of the excellent work that is being undertaken in the Island to help businesses and households to reduce their energy bills and so help protect our planet.'

A broad range of activities are planned for the Expo across the 2 days including an exhibition featuring ten local firms involved in energy efficiency.

Friday’s activities feature:

  • a presentation to an invited audience by Richard Thompson, Business Development Manager for the Williams F1 team, which is developing its own hybrid power solution;
  • the announcement of the Energy Awards 2013 winners;
  • a Clean Tech networking event with keynote speaker featuring a number of Clean Tech companies.

Saturday’s main activity is a question and answer session for the public on “The Future of Motorsports and Clean Technology". The session will include Komatti, ManTTX and Chris Heath who have all been involved in TT Zero and Richard Thompson, Business Development Manager for the Williams F1 team.

Ken Milne, Senior Manager for Energy Policy said:

'The question and answer session will be interesting to anyone who has an interest in clean vehicle technology or motorsport and will also demonstrate why the Isle of Man is an ideal location to trial new technology. In addition to the presentations and awards a number of local businesses will be exhibiting who offer energy efficiency solutions for commercial and domestic properties.'

'We will also have information for businesses on energy efficiency training courses and the 0% Green Business loans. The loan offers 100% towards the cost of projects that improve energy efficiency and can be arranged from £1,000 up to a maximum level of assistance of £20,000 per project.'

Visitors to the Expo can also win a number of prizes. For example, a valuable ‘air tightness’ test on their home to identify drafts and associated heat loss with appropriate energy efficiency measures being recommended, courtesy of Stroma NX. Further prizes are being offered by ISO QA Isle of Man Ltd, the Isle of Man’s only ISO certification company.
