Visit the Tynwald Millennium Exhibition During Festival of Motorcycling

Monday, 19 August 2019

The Isle of Man Public Record Office, part of the Department for Enterprise’s Central Registry, is bringing their popular exhibition, ‘A Thousand Years, A Thousand Welcomes’, which celebrates the Tynwald Millennium, to Ramsey Town Hall during the Festival of Motorcycling.

Admission is free for the exhibition which will be on display at Ramsey Town Hall in Parliament Square on Thursday 22 – Saturday 24 August and Tuesday 27 – Thursday 29 August, 9am – 4pm.

Director of the Central Registry, Ed Clague, commented:

‘The exhibition was first shown at the Tynwald Library, in Douglas, during Tynwald Week, marking 40 years since the Manx parliament celebrated its Millennium. Visitor numbers led to a request from Ramsey Town Commissioners to host the exhibition during the Festival.

It promises to be an evocative experience for anyone who took part in its events – from Celtic Week to the Military Tattoo - or simply has fond memories of the year.’

The exhibition will unfold the story of Millennium year: the key organisational figures, the special events and projects, and the succession of VIP visits, culminating in Queen Elizabeth II presiding over the Tynwald Day ceremony. Also covered is the epic voyage of Odin’s Raven from Trondheim to Peel, undertaken in honour of the Island’s Viking heritage.

Visitors will be able to view selected records of the 1979 Millennium Committee (and sub-committees), as well as information boards and a small display of memorabilia. There’s no need to register for the event, simply turn up on the day. For more information visit Public Record Office’s Facebook.
