Advice for public bodies

Under the Public Records Act 1999 the Public Record Office is responsible for the guidance, co-ordination and supervision of the safekeeping of Manx public records, the selection of the records to be preserved permanently and their transfer to the Public Record Office in due course.

The information on this page is aimed at Manx public bodies. Our series of factsheets give general guidance on a variety of topics including safekeeping and selection. Our generic retention schedules and our Template for an Information and Records Management Policy  can be used by Manx public bodies as a starting point for creating their own retention schedules.

Holders of public records are always encouraged to contact us for further information and advice.
