The Department of Education and Children is pleased to announce that Jayne Adamson has been appointed headteacher of Scoill yn Jubilee with effect from September 2013.
Mrs Adamson will leave her post as School Improvement Adviser with the Department of Education and Children, a position she has held for five years.
Mrs Adamson succeeds Linda Green, who has headed the now merged Ballaquayle Infants and Murray’s Road Junior Schools since spring 2012. Mrs Green has been headteacher at Ballaquayle since 1998.
Mrs Adamson graduated from Edge Hill University in 1989 and then worked with Wigan Local Education Authority in a variety of roles. She moved to the Island in 2001 as deputy headteacher at Ballaquayle Infants and was then appointed to work within the Education Improvement Service in 2007.
She said:
‘I am looking forward to taking up my new role and working with colleagues new and old, getting to know children and parents and working with the governing body and the community, following in the footsteps of an outstanding headteacher. I am, however, sad to leave my role within EIS, which has involved working with talented teachers and headteachers to support school improvement.’
Mrs Adamson is married with a 9yr old son and, in her spare time, enjoys walking and horse riding.
Martin Barrow, Director of Education with the DEC, paid tribute to the outgoing headteacher, saying:
‘Throughout her career, Linda has been at the forefront of developing the way in which children are taught during their early years in school.
‘Under her leadership, Ballaquayle School is popular, successful and well respected by its community. Over the last year she has approached the task of amalgamating Ballaquayle with Murray's Road to form Scoill yn Jubilee with tremendous commitment and energy. Her legacy is a school that has its own clear vision and identity and is well placed to prosper and be successful.
‘Linda will be sadly missed by the children, parents and staff but I am sure they would all want to join with the Department in thanking her for her huge contribution to their school and in wishing her a long, happy and healthy retirement.’
