Wi-Fi

The Department position in regard to wifi is:

  • Any advice with regard to health, upon which the Department may act, is obtained from the Public Health Directorate.  Health advice from Public Health can be found online .
  • In the absence of a proven risk from wireless technologies, the Department is not aware of any risk assessment having been carried out.
  • The authority for what is implemented within a school is the domain of the school and the Department of Education Sport & Culture.  There are no plans that are known to the Corporate Services Division of DESC to change how things currently operate in terms of Wi-Fi or wired systems.
  • An assessment of exposure to radiofrequency radiation from wireless LANs at 2 Isle of Man schools is available for download.
