Child Protection

The Protecting Children Board coordinates and monitors how the Island's services and professional staff work together to protect children from abuse or neglect.

It is very important that the right decisions are made to ensure that family life is supported whenever possible but that, where a child is at risk of significant harm, there is a coordinated and effective response to the situation.

The agencies involved in protecting children can include the Police, Education, Health, Probation, the voluntary sector and other organisations who work with children as well as Social Services who have the lead responsibility.

The board's website is open to everyone. You can look at the online inter-agency child protection procedures that provide guidance to all agencies on how to work together effectively and also at the board's information sharing guidance. The website has specific sections for parents and children as well as professionals. The website also provides information on how to report concerns you may have about a child who may be at risk.
