Inclusion and Safeguarding
Inclusion and Safeguarding covers 3 key strands:
1. Working with other Government Departments and agencies to meet the Integrating Children’s Services and Safeguarding agendas including ensuring the Department of Education, Sport and Culture's delivery of the Chief Minister’s Children’s Pledge to Looked After Children.
2. Education Support Services – provision of a range of targeted services within the Department of Education and Children:
- Pre-School Assessment Centre
- Behaviour Support Centre
- Service for learners with vision impairment
- Hearing support service
- Educational psychologists
- Teachers for children with medical difficulties
3. Safeguarding
The Protecting Children Board coordinates and monitors how the Island's services and professional staff work together to protect children from abuse or neglect.
It is very important that the right decisions are made to ensure that family life is supported whenever possible but that, where a child is at risk of significant harm, there is a coordinated and effective response to the situation.
The agencies involved in protecting children can include the Police, Education, Health, Probation, the voluntary sector and other organisations who work with children as well as Social Services who have the lead responsibility.
