About the Research Governance and Regulation Team

Rebecca Rowley, Head of Research Governance and Regulation

Becky worked in financial services and law before moving into health research. She completed her PhD in Primary Care Sciences in 2016 and undertook post-doctoral work in medical sociology.

She was appointed as the DHSC Head of Research and Development in 2017 where she worked to establish a system of research governance. It was there that she founded the Isle of Man Research Ethics Committee (IOMREC), an independent committee for assessing the ethical integrity of proposed health and social care research.

Since moving to Public Health in 2019, Becky has worked to ensure the foundation of good quality research, including establishing links with UK research authorities (e.g. UK Health Research Authority) and creating appropriate regulation.
