More than 800 local employers will shortly be asked for details of pay and patterns of employment as part of the Isle of Man Government’s annual earnings survey.
The survey, to be conducted by the Economic Affairs unit in the Cabinet Office, will take a random sample of 2,500 employees, with a questionnaire sent to the last known employer of each person.
The identity of all employers and employees is kept strictly confidential throughout the process.
Information gathered during the earnings survey forms an important part of Government’s statistical database and helps to inform policy development.
It allows Government and the public to better understand whether the average hourly rate of pay in the Island is increasing and, if so, by what percentage.
There is also further analysis of the data in terms of gender, age, occupation, industry, length of service and levels of basic weekly and overtime hours.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK said:
‘This survey will provide an important snapshot of earnings in the Isle of Man in 2018. The results will also help us to compare salaries in the Island with those in the UK.’
He added:
‘This Government is focused on supporting economic growth and creating well-paid jobs. Promoting enterprise and opportunity is good for our people, good for local business and helps Government to sustain quality public services.’
Businesses are being contacted either by email or letter with a link to the questionnaire for completion online. Those selected are legally required to supply information for the survey under the Statistics Act 1999.
