Friday, 4 May 2012

Members of the Isle of Man Government’s Overseas Aid Committee today (Friday, May 4) gained a personal insight into the work of one of the UK’s leading humanitarians and human rights campaigners.

Baroness Cox, a Life Peer and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, is the Chief Executive of HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust) and well known for her missions to many of the world’s conflict zones. She delivered a presentation about her activities in countries such as Sudan, India, Nigeria, Uganda and Burma, and also learned about the Isle of Man’s commitment to international aid and disaster relief efforts.

Chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee, Phil Gawne MHK, said:

‘It was a privilege to meet Baroness Cox, a campaigner who works tirelessly to highlight humanitarian needs and human rights violations around the world. She spoke with great passion and conviction about her work and was also interested to hear about the wide range of aid projects supported by the Isle of Man.’
