Diamond Jubilee beacons to be lit tonight

Monday, 4 June 2012

An Isle of Man Government beacon will be lit on the Green at St John’s tonight (Monday, June 4) as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister Tim Crookall MHK, Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee Working Group, and member Geoff Corkish MBE MHK will light the beacon at 10.15pm. This will be part of a network of more than 4,000 beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Crown Dependencies and UK Overseas Territories.

A number of local community groups and organisations are planning to join in the celebrations tonight by lighting their own jubilee beacons at various venues across the Island. These include – Peel Hill (Patrick Commissioners), St Ninian’s Church (Douglas Borough Council), Slieau Lhost (Isle of Man Civil Defence) and Strenaby Farm, Lonan (Freemasons).
