Next phase of Ramsey regeneration to begin in East Street

Tuesday, 8 October 2013

The next phase of the Ramsey regeneration programme is scheduled to begin on Monday 14 October, with work centred on East Street and its junction with Parliament Street.

The project will cost £317,000 and will result in wider, pedestrian-friendly pavements laid using high quality materials to match the new Courthouse area.

The work is being brought forward as it includes an upgrading of the surface water drainage outfall for Parliament Street to increase capacity in the existing system.

This will overcome drainage issues that have affected Parliament Street. In addition, the road closures required for the East Street works are being coordinated with the closures for the swing bridge in order to minimise disruption in this part of Ramsey.

The project is expected to take 16 weeks and, as it is focused on East Street, it will reduce disruption to the main Parliament Street shopping area over the busy Christmas retail period.

The regeneration work planned for Parliament Street between East Street and Court Row will start early in 2014 and is scheduled to follow on directly after the East Street phase.

Allan Bell MHK, Chairman of the Ramsey Regeneration Committee, said:

‘The Ramsey Regeneration Committee has worked hard to keep the momentum of regeneration progress in the retail area going. This important next phase will begin the transformation of the main shopping street to make it a more attractive place to visit and spend time, while acting as a catalyst for further investment in the town.’

In addition to the regeneration scheme, work on the Albert Road car park development got underway on Monday 7 October.
