National Holocaust Memorial Day 2014

Wednesday, 18 September 2013

The 2014 Isle of Man National Holocaust Memorial Day, which remembers victims of the Holocaust and honours those who helped them in the face of persecution and hate, will take place on Sunday 26 January.

Organiser Carol Jempson said:

‘People of all faiths and no faith are welcome to attend this important annual service. We especially want to hear from those who may have lived in countries with recent experience of human atrocities. This event is an opportunity for people to come together to reflect on the past and work towards a more peaceful and tolerant future.’

Memorial Day, which in 2014 will focus on the theme of ‘Journeys’, is supported by local schools and churches and involves readings, prayers, music and song.

Organisers are particularly keen to reach out to people originating from countries which have experienced genocide. Anybody who has previously lived in, or has a strong personal connection with Kampuchea, Bosnia, Rwanda or Darfur, will be invited to take part in next January’s service.
