Celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the Isle of Man

queens platinum jubilee logo

In 2022 Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. The Isle of Man will both celebrate and commemorate Her Majesty’s historic reign.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in an extended bank holiday from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June. This long weekend will provide an opportunities for the Island’s community and people to come together to celebrate the historic milestone. Local events are also encouraged to take place over the next few months.

Platinum Jubilee Event Fund

The Event Fund has now closed for applications.

A Platinum Jubilee Event Fund offering a one-off grant to help cover up to 80% of total event costs has been launched to encourage local communities to come together and celebrate this momentous occasion. This fund will allow the Island’s Local Authorities, non-profit making community/voluntary groups and local charities to apply for a one-off grant towards the costs of specific community events celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Platinum Jubilee Event Fund will offer the following financial support:

  • Up to £5,000 for each of the Island’s local authorities
  • Up to £1,000 for community/voluntary groups and local charities

Events eligible for support must demonstrate a clear link to the celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in terms of theme and event activity. The events can take place from 1 April 2022 until 30 September 2022 and can include but not be limited to Street parties, live music and entertainment, festival activities and specific exhibitions.

Whilst the official celebrations across the Commonwealth are planned for the special extended bank holiday from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June, Islanders are encouraged to celebrate any time from April through to September with the help of this grant support.

Please see the full guidance document which provides a full breakdown of eligibility requirements and the application process.

Those interested can apply using the online application form found below and for any related queries or to confirm event eligibility please email eventfund@gov.im

Applications closed on 31 May 2022 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

The Queen’s Green Canopy

The Queen’s Green Canopy is generating the planting of large, celebration trees, new majestic avenues of trees, urban planting, and expansive new forests that will benefit future generations. Every planting is being recorded on a digital Queen’s Green Canopy map which will be presented to Her Majesty at the end of the Jubilee year.

School children from the Isle of Man are helping to create a green canopy by planting 70 trees to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years on the throne. The trees have been chosen to match those in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.
