When the UK left the European Union (EU), the Isle of Man's limited relationship with the EU (as set out in Protocol 3 to the UK's Treaty of Accession) fell - although it has continued to have legal effect, during the transition period, which ends 31 December 2020.

After many months of negotiation, the United Kingdom and the European Union have agreed the final terms of their future trading relationship, and the Isle of Man is covered by certain parts of that Agreement. New rules will take effect on 1 January 2021.

Officers from the Isle of Man Government continue to work with relevant officials from across the UK Government to set out the Isle of Man's priorities and discuss the implications of the end of the transition period for the Island. This work is helping to inform the UK's position but is also essential in building contacts with the people who are involved in the negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and the EU so that they are clear about the Island's issues and priorities.

People EU, EEA and Swiss citizens living in the Isle of Man can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the Isle of Man after the transition period. If you live and work in an EU country you should check what you will need to do in the country you’re living in. Check what you need to do now.

Business Ready From 1 January 2021, the way your business will trade with the EU will change. You should: - Make sure you have your Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number - Decide how to make customs declarations Find out what else your Business can do now to prepare for the future relationship.

Travel You can continue to travel to the EU as usual during the transition period. From 1 January 2021 there will be new rules to travel to the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Check what you need to do to travel to Europe from 2021.
