Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Scheme

This page is currently being updated. Please contact the Ukraine Support Officer Ukrainesupport@gov.im if you have any questions

The Isle of Man Government has launched the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine where people are encouraged to register their interest in becoming potential hosts.

We will ensure that those who want to sponsor an individual or family can volunteer and help Ukrainians in need.

It is important to ensure this is a positive experience for both hosts and guests.

Hosts should provide accommodation for as long as they are able, but we have a minimum expectation of 6 months. The accommodation should look to provide full access, privacy and access to facilities such as kitchen space and bathrooms.

This scheme is for residents to express their interest in becoming hosts.

If you know of a named Ukrainian who you wish to sponsor, you should register as a host. Once your registration is approved a visa application to the Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme must be made with both sets of details via online application portal. Please see the Isle of Man Borders website for further information on the visa process. They can also be contacted at ukraineguidance@gov.im for information or assistance on the visa process.

People wanting to be sponsors who do not know anyone personally fleeing Ukraine can also register their interest in being a host.

Before registering, it is important that potential hosts have considered all the requirements that will be asked of them and the document below details the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Scheme and hosting criteria.

You can also read the frequently asked questions for hosts of the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Scheme or the frequently asked questions for Ukrainian arrivals in the Isle of Man.

Once you have registered your interest in offering accommodation we will review your registration and contact you shortly.

If you do need to contact us about your registered interest, or help completing the online form, you can either email us at UkraineSupport@gov.im or call us on +44 1624 642500 - Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Please note that the inbox and telephone line is for accommodation registration only. If you have any general queries, please check the Frequently Asked Questions. These will be reviewed on a regular basis as the Island's Scheme evolves.

Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine (Host Payments) Scheme 2022

We know that there will be costs associated with helping out and we are aware of the increasing cost of living on our island and further afield. The host payment is not intended to cover all costs that a host may incur, but is available to those who might need it as a contribution for their generosity and kindness to others.

The £240 per month host payments are available for those hosting Ukrainian guests via the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Scheme as well as for family sponsors where immigration permission was granted under the Isle of Man Ukraine Family Scheme.

The Host Payment is limited to one host payment, per month, per residential address. You will continue to receive payments for as long as you are hosting and for up to 12 months.

Host payments will not affect benefit entitlement, but the payments will be subject to tax.

It should be noted if the guest(s) leaves or the host becomes deregistered, the Ukraine Support team must be notified. The payment for the period that the guest(s) has not been there is repayable and may be recovered as a civil debt.

For more information regarding the scheme please refer to the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Host Payment Scheme 2022 page.

To apply for the host payments please fill in the Scheme Application Form which is available at the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Host Payment Scheme 2022 page and email to UkraineSupport@gov.im or post to:

Aid and Donations

The Isle of Man Government has already donated £500,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee for their Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. This money will be donated directly to their partner charities already operating in Ukraine and neighbouring countries who are meeting the immediate needs of those fleeing Ukraine.

Anyone who can, is encouraged to donate to DEC – this is the fastest and most effective way to help those who need support.

The Manx community support for Ukraine has been overwhelming and commendable. We encourage people who wish to help to provide monetary donations to the DEC who work directly with organisations on the ground in Ukraine and bordering countries.

Donating money, rather than physical items and supplies, allows organisations to source relief items locally, ensuring quality and quick delivery to those who need them

One World Centre Isle of Man is also working with DEC to raise money for all those affected by the Russian invasion – so far they have raised over £10,000.

For ideas of other places you can donate visit the Ukraine Institute website.

For any support or queries unrelated to visas email at ukrainesupport@gov.im

Visas and Immigration

The Isle of Man is aligned with the UK immigration policy. This policy is rapidly changing and further changes may be made at short notice.

Please check the immigration website for the latest information.

Anyone who has any queries or needs guidance relating to visas, please email ukraineguidance@gov.im

Sanctions

The Isle of Man has implemented a number of sanctions against the Russian Federation in response to its actions in Ukraine. The Isle of Man follows the UK Government's sanctions regime and UK foreign policy, and will continue to do so.

Regulations have been published closing off the Island’s airspace and ports to all Russian aircrafts and vessels.

Details of sanctions implemented by the Isle of Man, including links to the relevant UK sanctions, are available on the Tax, VAT and your Money section.
