information for teachers and schools
The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is keen to promote consumer rights and responsibilities to young people. Officers will be happy to attend schools to talk to groups of young people about these issues.
The Office has also introduced a number of resources to assist learning:-
START RIGHT - a booklet aimed at ages ages 8-12 to introduce young people to their rights and responsibilities as consumers.
RIGHTS FOR LIFE - a programme aimed at secondary school students to further develop their knowledge of consumer issues. Covering such matters as advertising controls and food labelling it can be used across a range of subjects.
TEACHING TELEVISION IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS - a package to support teachers in raising children's awareness of the need to differentiate between real life and that shown on TV and video.
For further information about these resources contact Margaret Crellin on 686500 or mail us.
From time to time the Office runs promotions and competitions specifically for young people. We would welcome ideas from teachers and young people for such promotions. Please contact Margaret on 686500 or mail us if you would like to discuss any ideas you have.
