sales and private sales
Sales | Private SalesSales
Shops sometimes reduce or lower their prices and sell their goods off cheaply. If you buy something that has been reduced in a sale you can still take it back to the shop if it doesn't work properly.
Although it feels good to think that we have picked up a bargain, be careful. Watch out for the description "special purchase".
It means that the shop has bought them in specially for the sale. They may be poor or inferior quality. Look out for things described as "seconds" too. It means that they are not of the best quality so you need to take extra care before you buy.
Private Sales
If you buy something from a friend or someone who is not in business, it is called a private sale. The law does not give you as much protection and you have fewer rights. The goods still have to match their description but they don't have to be of any particular quality or fit for any purpose.
Because of this, it is always a good idea to take someone along with you if you are buying from a private person. Your rights may depend on what the seller tells you. So it helps to have a witness.
