It is very exciting to own your own car. Car traders must obey the same three shopping rules as anyone selling goods
- Goods sold by a trader must be of "satisfactory quality". It means that they must work properly and, if they are new, they must not be broken or damaged.
- Goods sold by a trader must be described properly. Traders must not tell lies or mislead you about what they are selling.
- Goods sold by a trader must be "fit for their purpose".
However you do not have this same protection if you buy a vehicle privately or at an auction.
If you want to find out more about buying a used car this section explains more and includes a "check list" to help you decide if a car is worth buying.
