NEW ARRIVALS:
Marine toads for Year of theFrog

To celebrate the Year of the Frog, the Wildlife Park has a new species on exhibit - the marine or cane toad. Their natural distribution is central America, as far north as Texas and as far south as Argentina but they have become infamous as the biological control agent that went badly wrong. Released in Queensland in 1935 to control a beetle in the sugar cane fields, the cane toads turned their back on the beetles and began colonising north Australia. Recently, they reached the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. The marine toads will be on exhibit in The Ark, our living exhibition of endangered species and the threats they face, including competition and predation from introduced species.

Rodrigues Island Fruit Bat
Rodrigues Island Fruit Bat
From the island of Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean this is one of the rarest bats in the world. We have been chosen to join in the breeding programme for this endangered species, organized by Jersey Zoo. A large group of male bats arrived in early November 2006 and were first placed in their indoor quarters in the Life on Islands exhibit. They now have access to their landscaped outside flight enclosure and make a magical sight, feeding or resting in the trees, or flying round the walk-through enclosure

WORLD WIDE EDUCATION The Wildlife Park's education web site is a fascinating place. It is packed with photos and information on the animals you can see at the Park and there are fact sheets on all the main animals Click here to see
