Fishing in Reservoir Fresh water fly fishing is a popular pastime on the Island which the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry happily encourages by regularly stocking those reservoirs that have reasonable access with rainbow trout and to a lesser extent brown trout, locally bred in the hatchery at Cornaa. In total, seven reservoirs are available for fresh water fishing.

For a twenty week period commencing 10th March and continuing through to 31st October each year, the fisheries department stocks the waters once a week for the open fishing season. During these periods, certain sections of the reservoirs are closed to allow fish to acclimatize to their new environment. A massive total of over 30,000 fish are stocked during the holiday season.

In conjunction and associated with this activity, the Water Authority provides public car parking and toilet facilities at most of the reservoirs.
