Douglas New Treatment Works

The new Douglas Water Treatment Works was officially opened on the 2nd May, 2008 by His Excellency Vice-Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB.

The new works, the largest capital project The Isle of Man Water Authority has undertaken to date, saw the fruitition of three years of work by The Crystal Project team. The team was made up of The Isle of Man Water Authority, Earth Tech Engineering Limited and Lagan Construction (Isle of Man) Limited.

These advanced works have the ability to treat more water and will also assist in ensuring the bacteriological quality of supply to the consumer is safeguarded to the stringent requirements of the 21st century.

- Work began on site in June 2005. During construction there were 80 construction works on site.   
- The works replaced the existing Glencrutchery works, built in 1933.  
- The new facility is designed to treat up to 37 million litres of water a day, supplying 70 per centre of the Island's population   
- Treated water went into supply on 14th January, 2008   
- Glencrutchery was a single stage works, treating up to 18 million litres of water for residents in the Douglas area.   
- Construction was completed in October 2007, on time and within the £26.5 million budget
