The Board of the Isle of Man Water Authority
David Cannan Chairman of the Board

Mr David Cannan, member of the House of Keys for Michael since 1982, is Chairman of the Isle of Man Water Authority.

Mrs Brenda Cannell, also a member of the House of Keys, representing Douglas East, is vice-chairman of the Board.

David Cannan

Mr Cannan, whose previous appointments have included Speaker for the House of Keys, Minister for Treasury, chairman of the Financial Supervision Commission and membership of various Departments of Government is taking over the Chairmanship of the Authority at a time of major change. He will be steering the organisation through the completion of several vital capital schemes which include the new prestigious Douglas Water Treatment Works.

David Cannan was born in Kirk Michael and educated at King's William's College. After National Service (Army) he was recruited as a management trainee int he tea and rubber industries working in the Far East. He returned to the UK in 1967 where he established businesses until his return to the Isle of Man in 1980. He is married with a grown-up family.

Brenda Cannell

Mrs Brenda Cannell has been a Member of the House of Keys since 1996 representing Douglas East and has been involved in a wide range of Tynwald and Keys Committees. Local Authorities ( Douglas Town Council representing Derby Ward 1992 to 1995 ) and a Member of a large number of Government Departments Home Affairs, Trade & Industry, Education, Transport, Local Government & Environment and Agriculture Forestry & Fisheries.

Mrs Cannell was Chairman of the Isle of Man Water Authority from 2002 to 2004 and was a previous Chairman of the Planning Committee. She is married with two sons.

Charles Coole member of the Board

Charles Coole is from Port Erin and he has built an impressive career as a consultant in the water industry. His consultancy assignments were mainly in Nigeria on the refurbishment of water supplies and his most important task was planning and supervising the extensions to Kaduna water supply, which at that time was the largest single water supply in West Africa.

 
Hugh McCallion member of the Board

Hugh McCallion was born in Belfast but spent the majority of his career in the USA. He started as a design engineer before moving into sales and then management, eventually being appointed Managing Director of a company manufacturing metal components using a chemical machining process. Mr McCallion brings with him a wealth of commercial experience as well as knowledge of engineering and water treatment.

 
Mike Coleman member of the Board

Michael Coleman has considerable experience of senior management issues having held executive directorships at Coutts and Co on the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. He also held the position of joint deputy chairman of the group in the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands. Michael has a strong IT background and is a fellow of the British Computer Society.
