The Crystal Project
The Crystal Project was the collective title for three projects, ensuring a supply of crystal clear water to Douglas, Onchan, Middle and the south of the Island well into the future. This project is now complete.
The choice of the name Crystal Project or in Manx, Yn shalee rea-ushtey, reflects the Authority’s commitment to providing consistent, high quality water supplies to the Island’s growing population.
The new water treatment works is in Douglas. The main contractor for this part of the Crystal Project was Earth Tech Engineering Limited. This contract was signed in May 2005, work was completed in October, 2007 with water into supply on 14th January, 2008. The opening ceremony for the new works was held on 2nd May, 2008.
