Isle of Man Government Online Services

Online Services

Government online services are aimed at improving the way the Isle of Man Government interacts with citizens and businesses by organising information and services around their needs. The creation of re-usable "Common Shared Services" is a key to success, using technology to join up rather than duplicate services, making services more efficient and effective to design, deploy and operate. These shared services include webpage access, registration, security and privacy, administration and auditing.

A unique benefit of Government online services is the facility for a citizen or business to register once with Isle of Man Government then "enrol" for multiple services that will become available from Government Departments, Statutory Boards and Offices.

Allan Paterson

"The development of online services is an outcome of the JUPITER project using Microsoft technology as an enabler, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Government services, reduce the costs of administration and, in the longer term, develop customer focussed service delivery."

Local Gov TV - Delivering Effective Online Services for the Isle of Man Government

The video highlights the Isle of Man’s approach to dealing with a legacy of fragmented processes, applications and websites with a tightly focused technology architecture dealing with the complexity of providing both local and national services online. At the front end, using a single content management framework, GOV.IM, the government portal provides the Island’s citizens and businesses with a simple gateway to over 45 Departments and Agencies, leading to real cost savings for Government as well as increased resident satisfaction.

Managing online services and websites is now much simpler and far more effective than the Isle of Man’s previous set up where individual services and sites had been developed discretely reflecting organisation structure rather than customer need. With the development of the single Government wide shared services based on Microsoft technologies, common components such as Authentication and BizTalk adaptors are re-used in each subsequent service, leading to a consistent user experience, and demonstrable efficiencies, essential to a “full service” jurisdiction with a small population and limited budget.
