Visitor numbers showed no significant change in 2012, with an estimated 294,460 trips to the Island by visitors during the year. However, the number of residents travelling off-Island fell from 348,819 to 335,627 over the same period, a fall of almost 4%.
Of the 294,460 trips made by visitors in 2012, 106,381 (36.1%) were leisure visitors staying in paid accommodation, 116,424 (39.5%) were visiting and staying with friends or relatives and 65,551 (22.3%) were travelling for work or business reasons.
The average length of stay of visitors was 5.1 nights in 2012, whilst the average for residents travelling off-Island was 7.9 nights.
Expenditure on trips made by visitors to the Island in 2012 was just over £103 million. On average, visitors spent around £351 per visit.
