The main contributors to the annual rate of inflation continue to be Food and Fuel and Light, although both showed slight decreases over the month. In the 12 months up to mid-October, Food increased by 8.2% and Fuel and Light by 26.0%
At the time of the prices survey for October, the decrease in Bank Rate announced by the Bank of England on 8th October had yet to be reflected in mortgage interest rates.
The Retail Prices Index for October 2008 was 137.2.
