Review of the Planning System

Following a Tynwald motion in October 2007, the Department commissioned a body called the Improvement and Development Agency (“IDeA”) to conduct an independent review of the planning system. The IDeA’s report is available to download below, or may be purchased (for £2) at the public counter at Murray House.

In January 2010, the IDeA’s report was laid before Tynwald, together with a report by the Department which includes comments on the IDeA’s report and proposals for making changes to the planning system. The Department’s report (GR 52/09) is available to download below, or may be purchased (for £3.40) at the public counter at Murray House.

Tynwald approved the following motion:

“That Tynwald notes and supports the comments and proposals of the Department of Local Government and the Environment as set out in its Report on the Review of the Planning System (GR 52/09), and that the Minister makes a statement to this Hon. Court by July 2010 on progress made with implementing the proposals.”

As part of this planning review the Department is currently consulting on specific planning policy (Replacement or extension of dwellings in the countryside), the closing date for which was 11th November 2011.
