Functions

The Waste Management Section adopts the role of the Island's Waste Disposal Authority, and is responsible for the implementation of the agreed waste policies and strategy of the Isle of Man ensuring the Island has access to the appropriate level and type of facilities required to manage its wastes sustainably, whilst complying with the appropriate legislation.

In fulfilling these functions, the section is responsible for the operation of the Animal Waste Processing Plant, the Northern Civic Amenity Site and the landfill at Wrights Pit North, whilst a number of services are contracted out to the private sector that include the Energy from Waste Plant which is operated by SITA (IOM) Ltd.
