BATTERY RECYCLING SCHEME IS A HUGE SUCCESS.
2010 has been a record year for the collection and recycling of household batteries, weel done we have collected in excess of 7 tonnes or 336,000 'AA' batteries.
What do we collect?
We collect single use (disposable) and rechargeable batteries used in items such as torches, cameras, electronic games, computers, hearing aids and power tools.
Where do we collect them?
Working with Manx Co-op stores, Glen Mona Garage & Stores and all four Civic Amenity Sites, we provide collection points throughout the Island. The batteries are shipped off-Island by a local company, J Costain, Scrap Metal Merchants, and sent to G&P Batteries in the West Midlands for sorting and onward recycling.
Could we have more collection points?
Yes - we are now working with other local retail outlets across the Island to provide additional battery collection points as we would like to make it even easier for the public to reach a local recycling point.
We also provide a battery recycling service for the Island's secondary schools. We are now working to progress this service to include many of the Island's Primary Schools, as we'd like help more Primary pupils and teachers to get into the recycling habit by bringing in their batteries from home.
