Event Safety Group

The Event Safety Group was established under the chairmanship of the Chief Health and Safety Inspector, Mr N J Black, in July 2002. Meetings of the Group have been held on a monthly basis since August 2002.

The Event Safety Group has launched a new leaflet, which provides guidance for organisers of public events on the Island. In particular, the leaflet seeks to help organisers understand techniques that have been successful in running past events and explaining what plans and precautions need to be in place to ensure that events are well managed, safe and successful. The leaflet has been written to apply to all events. A copy of it is available to view or download at the bottom of this page.

What is the role of the Group?

The Group has 2 main objectives.

Firstly, to ensure that those responsible for responding to, and regulating public events act in a co-ordinated fashion when dealing with event organisers. Secondly, to provide comprehensive guidance documents for use by the co-ordinators of high, medium and low risk events.

The Group has agreed a format for an event notification form, which can be downloaded at the bottom of the page. The form can be returned to a central contact point (the Health and Safety at Work Inspectorate, Murray House, Mount Havelock, Douglas, IM1 2SF) and will be circulated electronically from there to all the regulating and responding organisations.
