Vehicle & Driving Test Centre

The Vehicle Driving and Testing Centre at Tromode is where practical driving tests and examinations of various categories of vehicles is undertaken, including imported vehicles, the annual testing of heavy lorries and those vehicles involved in road traffic accidents.

Driving Tests

All categories of driving tests are carried out at the Driving Test Centre, Ballafletcher Road, Braddan, Douglas IM4 4QJ. For certain specialist vehicles the test centre staff have the option of conducting the tests at a more convenient location (e.g. agricultural tractors, engineering plant, steam vehicles etc.)

All staff at the Driving Test Centre have been trained to meet the standard required by the GB Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

Theory and hazard perception tests are carried out by the Isle of Man College in Douglas, bookings need to be made at the College but for information on availability you can call 648348 (01624). The College is situated to the west of Douglas in Homefield Road, and can be found by turning up Greenfield Road from the TT grandstand.

The Department can not recommend driving instructors; the two main ways of contact are Yellow Pages or discussion with friends and relatives to get a recommendation. If you have a problem with a driving instructor you can report this to the Registrar for Driving Instructors on 686741 (01624). It is an offence if a car driving instructor who is not on the Government approved list charges a fee for their services.

Tests are conducted between 09.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday and 09.00 to 13.00 on Saturdays. The Test Centre is closed on Bank Holidays. For information call 627431 (01624).
