Isle of Man Walking

Welcome to the Isle of Man Walking Festival

Isle of Man Walking PictureThe Isle of Man is a beautiful place.

In June we enjoy settled weather, hillsides that are bright with gorse and the burgeoning purple of heather to come, woodlands and glens are filled with birdsong, and over everything lies a mantle of peace following the excitement and drama of the annual motor cycling invasion. This is a time, too, when the waters around the Island are richly hued, the air is clear and invigorating, and cool breezes waft in from the sea settling the air and bringing into sharp relief the mountains of southern Scotland, the English Lake District, the Mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland and those of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

And if you decide to come and visit us in October 2007, you will be just as welcome, and we're sure you will enjoy our beautiful landscapes in autumnal colours. Quite staggering!

So come and enjoy the best of our Manx walking heritage with outstanding walks through dramatic scenery that compares favourably with any in the British Isles. The programme offers walks for everyone from guided tours of our towns, short leisurely explorations among our woodlands, national glens and riversides to more demanding hill and coastal walks.

And when you are not out walking, take time out to visit our museums and exhibitions, take in our Festival Social Calendar, learn how to dance the Manx way, find out about Manx cats, ancient crosses, legends and folklore, enjoy a relaxing drink at one of our numerous local pubs or a fine meal in elegant surroundings. In short, come and enjoy the Manx hospitality, some of the finest the world has to offer.
